The Electric Vehicle of 2023
As the emergence of battery-powered vehicles has gained momentum, Toyota, Subaru, and other automakers are planning new models for 2023 and beyond. Ford is expected to launch two new battery-electric models in 2022-2023. The Ford Lightning will join the lineup around May 2022. The E-Transit van is slated for delivery in the United States at the end of 2021. In addition, the Ford Lincoln brand announced a battery-electric model in 2022, based on the Rivian skateboard platform. While this EV is unlikely to arrive before 2023, its production plans have not yet been finalized, so the timing of its launch is still uncertain.
A recent article suggests that battery-electric vehicles will make up 50% of UK car sales by 2023. There are numerous caveats, however. The global economy is currently not operating as normal and there are labor shortages in key sectors. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that EVs won’t be here before the year is out.
