The term human nutrition is actually a broad term that encompasses all the four classifications. This broad term is used to generally describe the elements involved in human nutrition. All the subjects discussed in this article fall under the category of dietary nutrition.

 

Diets that provide complete nutrition must meet the requirements of all the individuals for proper and maximum health. There are many factors that affect the requirement of nutrition. They include: body weight; height; gender; genetic background; and geographic location. Based on the above factors, the nutritional needs of different individuals can be determined. Individuals with weight problems should always focus on losing weight and this can be achieved through diet and exercise, or by using pharmaceutical methods like drugs.

 

Dietary nutrition is divided into two main categories based on the source of nutrients. The first category includes those foods that provide energy or fuel for the body and the second category includes those foods that provide energy or fuel but are also capable of providing vital nutrients needed for the body. Foods that provide fuel are mostly proteins and carbohydrates. Foods that provide energy are fats and vitamins. Thus, it is important to eat foods that provide fuel and in equal proportions.

Nutrient utilization depends largely on the nutrient content of the food. An example of a nutrient rich food is one that contains carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins. A balanced diet should contain a combination of nutrients in order to achieve a healthy and balanced diet. Individuals should also know how to select the best kinds of foods that provide fuel, vitamins and minerals vitamins. The three-mcpd theory states that, in order to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, you should combine five or more nutrients in your daily diet. Two of the important nutrients that the three-mcpd theory focuses on are iron and vitamin D. Both iron and vitamin D are important to human nutrition as they are required for the absorption of nutrients such as the vitamins A, C and E. However, research has shown that the two minerals are not absorbed equally by the body. Thus, it is important to increase the absorption rates of these two nutrients in order to obtain optimal human nutrition. Other important nutrients that the three-mcpd theory emphasizes include riboflavin and phosphorus.

 

The intake of carbohydrates, fats and proteins should be in equal proportions in order to obtain a healthy diet. Carbohydrates are essential for obtaining energy, as they are converted into energy by the liver. Foods containing carbohydrates include breads, cereals, pasta and rice. Fats are used as a source of energy and they are found in foods such as butter, margarine, fried foods and oil. There are foods which are good sources of proteins. Protein foods include fish, milk and cheese.
